How the odds work

Every morning the app replays the rest of the season 5,000 times using the real remaining schedule. Each team's strength comes from its points percentage so far, pulled toward average early in the season when a hot or cold start says less. Results include overtime and shootout losses, which earn a point.

Playoff spots follow the AHL format: the top six teams in the Atlantic, the top five in the North and Central, and the top seven in the Pacific make it, ranked by points percentage. The top two in the Atlantic, top three in the North and Central, and the Pacific winner skip the best-of-three first round.

Data comes from the AHL's official stats feed and refreshes daily at 3 a.m. Pacific. The weekly arrows compare standings after the last two Sundays, so they roll forward every Monday morning once the weekend's games are final.
